Multinational Division North (MND-N)
NATO's Multinational Division North (MND-N) operates as an international military formation in which Latvia and Denmark have assumed the role of framework nations. It was established at the Adazi base in March 2019 with the aim of improving the defence of the Baltic States and strengthening NATO's collective deterrence and defence by providing an element of command and control in the Baltic region. The headquarters are located in Adazi, Latvia and Slagelse, Denmark.
On 7 July 2023, a ceremony was held to celebrate the attainment of full combat readiness of the Multinational Division Headquarters "North". By achieving full combat readiness, the Multinational Division Headquarters North has fulfilled the necessary requirements to be fully capable of providing situational awareness for regional security, planning and conducting military operations, commanding units, organising and conducting military exercises and activities, as well as other national and collective defence tasks, in order to increase the interoperability between the participating countries and their ability to perform common defence tasks in accordance with the North Atlantic Treaty.
The 13 nations currently represented on the HQ are Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Major General Jette Albinus from Denmark is the Commander of the NATO Multinational Division Headquarters North from 17 August 2023, succeeding Major General Flemming Mathiasen. The Deputy Commander is Brigadier General Ainārs Ozoliņš, an officer of the Latvian Armed Forces.
