Solemn Change of Defence Ministers Ceremony to be Held at the Oskars Kalpaks Monument
On Friday, September 15, at about 5.30 p.m. a solemn change of Defence Ministers ceremony will be held at the Oskars Kalpaks Monument in Riga, in Esplanade.
During the ceremony, the outgoing Defence Minister Inara Murniece will be replaced by Andris Spruds. I. Murniece will symbolically present the Ministry of Defence flag to the incoming minister.
I. Murniece has been performing the duties of the Defence Minister since December 14, 2022.
Andris Spruds was confirmed in the position of the Defence Minister today, on September 15. Since 2004 A. Spruds has worked at the Latvian Institute of International Affairs in various positions, serving as its director from 2011 to 2022, and is currently a member of the Advisory Board. At the same time, A. Spruds is a professor at Riga Stradins University. A. Spruds was elected to the 14th Saeima, where he served as the chair of the European Affairs Committee and worked in the Foreign Affairs Committee.
