Seven countries join Latvia’s Drone Coalition, Latvia will invest 10 million euro

On Wednesday, 14 February, several countries of Ukraine Defence Contact Group (Rammstein Group) announced they will be joining Latvia’s Drone Coalition for Ukraine. Letter of intent to join the Drone Coalition for Ukraine was signed by Latvia  and Ukraine, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

“Drone technologies have had an enormous impact on military strategies and tactical control. Drones are an instrumental element of Ukraine’s capabilities – they are efficient for both reconnaissance and attacking enemy targets. Coalition will ensure efficient and swift delivery of drones to Ukraine. It will also enhance our national and allied UAV capabilities,” Defence Minister Andris Sprūds pointed out.

Drone Coalition will contribute to development of Latvia’s military industry, said Minister Sprūds. Latvia intends to spend at least 10 million euro over the next year to bring the Coalition into the next phase. Ministry of Defence has received information about drones from Ukraine and has already reached out to local companies, inviting them to propose the structure of drone and spare part delivery to Ukraine based on specification.

Drone Coalition intends to deliver 1 million drones to Ukraine. By signing the letter of intent, countries have agreed to commit resources for manufacturing of drones and will deliver these drones and spare parts to Ukraine, where they will be tested and Coalition will also train Ukrainian troops on how to use them and integrate with other technologies.

Other countries have also shown interest in joining the Coalition.
