Norway confirms readiness to join the international Drone Coalition
On Wednesday, February 12, during the Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting in Brussels, Norwegian Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik signed Norway's declaration of readiness to join the Latvian-UK led international Drone Coalition in support of Ukraine.
"We are pleased that Norway is willing to join the Drone Coalition, which already unites 17 countries in support of Ukraine. With this potential accession, Norway will bring a significant contribution to drone deliveries and technology development in order to make Ukraine stronger on the battlefield. We invite other allies to join the Drone Coalition, so that together we can increase the volume of deliveries to Ukraine," said Latvian Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds.
According to the memorandum of understanding of the Drone Coalition, the admission of new countries has to be agreed upon by the existing members of the Coalition. With the accession of Norway, Drone Coalition would consist of 18 countries.
Since the establishment of the Drone Coalition on 14 February 2024, its member states have already provided significant support to Ukraine through drone deliveries. The combined support of all Drone Coalition member states towards Ukraine's drone capabilities amounted to 1.8 billion dollars in 2024.
Latvia allocated 20 million dollars for the Drone Coalition in 2024 and plans to allocate the same amount in 2025. Latvia has delivered nearly 5000 drones to Ukraine in 2024.
Together with Latvia, Drone Coalition is comprised of the United Kingdom, Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Estonia, Italy, New Zealand, Canada, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Germany and Sweden.
