Latvia joins joint ammunition procurement for Ukraine under the leadership of European Defence Agency
On Monday, 27 March 2023, Defence Minister Ināra Mūrniece signed the agreement for Latvia’s participation in planned joint EU-Norway ammunition procurement for Ukraine led by European Defence Agency (EDA).
‘By joining this collective procurement Latvia is sending a clear signal: we will continue to help Ukraine in all ways we can. I also believe the initiative will significantly boost output of military industry and promote the development of defence sector across Europe. It is critical,’ Defence Minister said.
Joint procurement of ammunition is part of special project by EDA. It will serve as a solid basis for joint procurement of 155mm ammunition so needed by the Ukrainian artillery by EU member states that collaborate on the effort. EDA will collect information, coordinate and negotiate contracts with European defence suppliers, thus contributing to faster delivery of ammunition that Ukraine is so eager to receive.
