Defence Minister and Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia discuss further support for Ukraine
On Thursday, 21 September, Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds met with H.E. Anatolii Kutsevol, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ukraine to Latvia. Meeting focused on current developments and further support to Ukraine.
During the meeting, officials also discussed the decisions adopted by Rammstein Group (Ukraine Defence Contact Group), including Latvia’s membership in the IT Coalition. Defence Minister Sprūds confirmed Latvia’s strong support for Ukraine’s NATO membership.
As reported earlier, Latvia continues to provide military support to Ukrainian Armed Forces. Since the beginning of invasion Latvia has committed funding in excess of 1% of its GDP to help Ukraine, putting Latvia among front-runners in terms of Ukraine’s supporters. In addition to military support, Latvia also provides Ukraine an extensive military training programme. This year Latvia plans to train around 3,000 troops of Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Ambassador of Ukraine Anatolii Kustevol presented his credentials to the President of Latvia on 2 May 2023.
